NAVIGATE: The Future of Flying

The uncertainty of what the “new normal” will be comes with apprehension and plenty of questions, especially in regards to travel. Since the documented start of the COVID-19 pandemic, airline traffic has significantly decreased with projections of continued stagnation carrying through 2020. As countries and states begin to reopen, there’s no doubt that the urge to travel will reemerge as well. But, how does that translate into our current situation? Flying, which once was a seemingly enjoyable experience for most, now feels like navigating through an extreme sport obstacle course with no sight of the finish line. Which begs the question, what is the future of flying?

NAVIGATE: Are You Able to Fly After Oct 1st, 2020?

It’s a new year, which means it’s out with old and in with the new; new identification needed to fly, that is. Effective Oct 1st, 2020, a real ID or an acceptable alternate is required to verify your identity at the airport. I know you are probably wondering what exactly this mean. There are already a variety of different types of identification and an abundance of information with too many words out on the internet. So I am going to break it down, plain and simple...it’s 2020, go get your passport.

But for those who still may have questions, here’s a few FAQs.

NAVIGATE: What Your Travel Companion Really Thinks Of You

They say you don’t really know someone until you’ve traveled with them. Spending virtually every moment with a person will reveal the good, the tolerable and the ‘why are we even friends?’ And we all know that one person that you cannot wait to get away from before the vacation ends. If you’re wondering why you haven’t been invited on another trip. Well...

NAVIGATE: All Airlines Are Not Created Equal

Let me preface this by saying, there’s a high probability that our values are not the same. I’m concerned with traveling safely on schedule far more than a reclining seat and my carry-on fee. I have non-negotiables when choosing an airline; safety, timeliness and an overall good customer experience. Truth be told, once I removed cost and comfort from my top criteria, most “widely preferred” airlines failed to meet my expectations.

MYtinerary: A Creator in New York

My first few visits to New York were completely overwhelming. The over-populated city (with people who have no regard for personal space) and the endless possibilities of things to do was a lot to digest. However, once I’d begun to incorporate activities that fed my creative appetite, I fell in love with its energy. Here are a few activities from my recent trip.

NAVIGATE: Panama: What Shouldn't Be A Second Thought

Had I not visited Costa Rica last year, I would not have been properly prepared for Panama. Truth be told, I still had a few lessons learned which should be expected regardless of how often I travel, especially internationally. I refer to these as “Life’s [Sometimes Not So] Gentle Reminders” to never get too comfortable. For those who have not yet visited a Latin American country, I’ve listed a few seemingly minor tips that could have a major negative impact if you’re not aware.

NAVIGATE: The Long Layover

Layovers…synonymous with “inconvenience.” Let’s be honest, no one wants to be stuck in an airport with overpriced food, uncomfortable chairs and only two charging ports per terminal.

Nor...having to “Usain Bolt” through the airport as your full government name is being called over the loudspeaker because it’s final boarding on your connecting flight.

MYtinerary: Turks & Caicos

I sat in a wooden patio chair in the rear of the AirBnb, as the sun tenderly caressed my melanin skin. “Chasing the sun around the world” became my personal mantra during my travels, so catching this sunset was pure bliss. I closed my eyes as I listened to the rustling of the ocean against the rocks on the shore. This moment could not be any more perfect. This is paradise.

NAVIGATE: Solo Travel...Where To Begin

If you would have asked me 5 years ago, would I go somewhere solo?, the answer would have been a strong NO. But over the years, I grew tired of planning trips with friends that never happened or being bored on vacation because I have different interests. I wanted to get up and go but I had no idea where to begin…

REFLECTIONS: Costa Rica

Luxurious Seclusion.

I wanted to begin my vacation laying on a private beach, recharging my melanin by way of kisses from the sun while indulging in a strong adult beverage with a pineapple resting on the rim. Mission Accomplished.
